I've spent 28 years in cybersecurity, most of it hands on: security architecture, operations, and sitting across the table from executives who just want a straight answer about risk. I founded CyberGrape in New Zealand 5 years ago, which went on to be nominated finalist numerous times and finally win a NZ Reseller News Innovation Award in 2023. Today I work as a vCISO across Australia, New Zealand and Sub-Saharan Africa, holding CISSP, ISO 27001 Internal Auditor and other industry credentials.
What I care about is pragmatism: security that fits the business it's protecting, not a checklist for its own sake. My business covers the full range, from vendor and human risk management to managed detection, email security and dark web monitoring, but the job is always the same: understand what a client actually needs, then build something protects them.
