Dealing with China Workshop
This practical workshop will discuss and practice some of the cultural, business etiquette, protocols and language to be used when engaging with Chinese customers, delegations, business partners and prospects. More specifically it will discuss:
The role of ‘guanxi’ (关系) and ‘mianzi’ (面子) in business dealings;
About the Presenter
Russell Smith is the Principal of China Advisory Services and is a member of the Maroochydore Chamber of Commerce. He has nearly 40 years’ experience with China, having worked in various intelligence-related roles throughout his career. He is a fluent Mandarin linguist and was Australia’s Defence Attaché to the People’s Republic of China. In the last 10 years he was worked commercially with China as the Director (Asia-Pacific), Jane’s by IHS Markit.
In addition, a representative from AUSTRADE will discuss the Australia-China Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and what it means for Sunshine Coast businesses and the opportunities it presents, particularly given the majority of existing tariffs will be removed beyond 1 January 2019.
